Lucas, Aspiring Academic

Hello. My name is Lucas. I currently reside in Fairport, NY and aspire to be a professor, writer, and life long academic. After graduating from Saint John Fisher College with a BA in Economics, I decided to take a break from school to be with friends and family, and to gain some clarity. I know what I want to do and I have my goals, I am simply in no rush. I took a job at the Apple store in Eastview and couldn't ask for a better group of people to work with. It's fun, laid back, and I get to play with cool stuff all day.

I live every day making simple, conscious decisions that I know can change the world if we are all influenced to do so, hence my tagline: Live Green. Some may call me a snob or an out right jerk about certain things, but I stick to my guns. Some things to me are more important than others.

Current Thoughts

As gas prices reach record highs (only do I know this because the FED cut rates again) I find myself caring less and less. It was a dumb idea to begin with.

Current Thoughts

My Gen. Everything we are used to having, is what we were trained to think is normal. The way we were raised, even in the rural middle class, we think it's normal to have a TV in every room in the house. Even the kitchen! If we were raised to think conscious decisions were normal, would the world be a better place? would there be other problems we would concern ourselves with only when we were made aware? Maybe. But at least we would think it normal to have a single car for a household or family. In the small town I grew up in, every member of the family had his or her own car. Hey, we had our own things to do. We couldn't be impeded by inadequate transportation. If only we were brought up to think different things. (It isn't appropriate to blame a huge problem on one single thing. For the sake of opinions, current thoughts are not meant to be taken seriously.)

Boy, life lately. Plenty has been happening and probably passing by right under my nose. I would like to say life has been stable but that would simply be a lie. It is the opposite and the opposite is the reason it has taken me a month to feel passionate enough to write.

As winter approaches my largest concern is not being able to ride my bike in the snow. In this case I will have to drive my car more often than I like to. The biggest thing I'm trying to stay focused on is the fact that my winters in the suburbs of Rochester are limited. I'm hoping in the future to settle down in a city that supports public transportation better than Rochester does, and even has a less intense winter. That, along with other things are keeping me sane when driving my car.

EVENT: Step It Up 2007. Saturday, November 3, 2007.
Ever since my involvement with environmental activism, I have used the Greenpeace newsletters as a template for my cause. This Saturday, one year before the next Presidential Election, rallies will be held across the country to strongly encourage the fight against rapid climate change. Capitalism does not pay environmental issues any concern because doing so would not yield profit. Profit, capitalism, our world will not exist if we don't take action by doing little things to encourage a larger cause. This is the largest problem our generation will face. It is imperative that we take action by urging congress to take steps beyond what they already have done.

Thanks to my blogging buddy Frank Regan, I know about a rally going on in Buffalo this Saturday. We will March from Teddy Roosevelt's inaugural site to the monument honoring William McKinley displaying messages urging congress to support policy cutting carbon emissions and the growth of green jobs. Back in April, rallies of this kind were going on as well. I happened to be in DC at the time and witnessed the rally going on right on Capitol Hill. This time, I'm in Rochester, so I'll take what I can get and go to Buffalo.

For more information on the event, check out http://events.stepitup2007.org/november/events/show/2221

It should be a lot of fun, hopefully many will show. Write a letter to your Congressman or Senator inviting them to the event as well.
